Payments Solution Design

The Assignment

 

 

Consulting Smart Ltd was asked to lead the design phase of a card and mobile payments ‘paybyphone’ parking service across the London Underground car park estate managed by NCP on behalf of TfL. The solution was to include multi-functional Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs), In-app payments both fully integrated with NCP’s back office and in particular the revenue protection module.

Our Involvement

We assigned a Senior Payments Consultant to direct a small team of consultants and lead the initiative from ideation through to concept and product definition. Our role required the careful management of stakeholders from client LUL (TfL) and service provider NCP to all of the system integrators and TVM providers.

 

 

Our Approach

First, our consultant formed a working group of all stakeholders and then set about analysing the existing payments acceptance solution. Then the requirements we overlaid on the existing service maps to identify functional and technical gaps to be addressed.
Then our consultant created the solution design with input from various stakeholders and vendors

Our Clients Results

Both LUL and NCP were happy with the design and delighted that it covered all their requirements and more. The design eliminated some manual processes and also added the capability of Apple Pay which at the time was not yet available in the UK, but was in planning by the payment schemes. The design reimagined existing capabilities rather than create a whole new scheme which reduced costs, increased the speed of implementation and improved vendor relations.
