Case Study
The Office of the Deputy Prime MinisterCitizens Card Standards Tool-kit Development
The Assignment
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister was developing a standardised tool kit to ensure that all public sector issued smartcards were interoperable with each other. There were several parts to this tool kit, one being a table of technical standards. To research and then produce a table of interoperable technical standards was the assignment.
Our Involvement
A Consulting Smart consultant with smartcard expertise in public sector environments was appointed as senior member of the working group, and assigned the task of producing such a table
Our Approach
A body of work to research and analyse all existing open source technical standards was completed. To validate these standards a working group of industry representative, public sector bodies from transport, local government, financial services and car & chip manufacturers was formed. After several iterations, including adding narrative for each standard a draft table of standards was produced.
Three different public sector smartcard schemes were chosen to beta test the standards table as part of their scheme build. Following this beta test some enhancements were made and the project was completed.
Our Clients Results
The client was very pleased with the outcome and the table became table 11 of the Technical Standards Catalogue which is now part of the e-GIF.
